How We Chose the Top Baby Strollers in Our List
When we set out to create our list of the 10 Best Baby Stroller of 2018, we wanted to make sure that our recommendations were put through some pretty tough criteria. That way, when you read our choices, it can help make your decisions easier, knowing the things we looked for along the way.
While this may not be the first thing that you, as a new parent will look at when deciding on a stroller, we would ask that you do. When you start, take some strollers for a test drive around the store. Are the handlebars at a proper height where you don’t have to bend or stoop, which can cause you a lot of back pain. You want to pick a stroller with handlebars that work properly in regards to your height and gait.
While you may use your new stroller for nice walks around the neighborhood or in the park enjoying the fresh, crisp air with your little one, the reality is that more often than not, you’ll be running errands while using the stroller. Some strollers come with a basket underneath with can be convenient when you need to store your baby’s diaper bag or other items.
Some models also come with a cup holder and storage spaces on the handlebar, which can be nice to use for keeping your drink, your child’s pacifier or toys. While some 3rd party companies sell clips that can be used to hang shopping bags off the handlebar, you do need to be careful. Too much weight and the stroller could tip backwards.
You’re not going to be using a stroller all the time, and sometimes, you’ll need to take it with you if you go out. While it may be true that some families never fold or store their stroller, it’s more than likely that to carry it in your vehicle or to even get it in the house, you’ll need to fold it. Strollers that you have to wrestle to the ground to fold, might not be worth the trouble.
Likewise, if you have a folded stroller that even with a light breeze springs back open, that isn’t a good option to have either. There are those out there that have way too many things to do before they will fold up for storage or transport which, when you’re in a rush can cause one too many headaches. The point is, you always want to test things like this in the store before you bring it home. Choosing one that’s easy to fold and unfold will make things much easier later on.
Car Seat Compatibility
You’re more likely to find a stroller on the market that can use a car seat made by the same company, or in some cases, different companies. These are known as travel systems and their popularity in recent years has defined grown. This option can be a nice one to have. Taking your sleeping child’s car seat out of the car and placing it into a stroller can be less stressful that accidentally waking them to move them from car seat to stroller.
While there are some that will let you use a car seat from a different manufacturer, using the same brand car seat and stroller can not only make it easier for you but make it more cost effective.
While any stroller has the basic features including wheels, a seat and a handlebar, choosing a stroller that may come with some additional options could help owning a stroller easier as your child gets older. Having a stroller with a bar on the front that can swing open is a nice feature to have so they can climb in themselves once they are old enough. For those that don’t have a bar, it may have a tray for snacks and toys, with can be nice as well. All quality strollers come with wheel locks and harness straps to keep your baby as safe as possible, although a 5-point harness are considered to be the safest option. Also, having a removable seat cushion will make it much easier to clean.
When it comes to a stroller’s weight, the lighter the weight, the easier it will be to push, pack up, carry upstairs and travel with. There are super-lightweight models on the market that can typically weigh between 8 and 10 pounds. These are typically umbrella strollers for older babies though.
For a newborn baby stroller, a good weight is somewhere between 11 and 16 pounds. On the high end, prams can weigh up to 40 pounds or more which can be a little much to have to move around.
Benefits of a baby stroller
Not many people would initially look at a baby stroller and think what benefits it could offer you and your child. They and yourself may be pleasantly surprised at the benefits that using a baby stroller can offer.
When your child is first born, you will want to hold your little one in your arms as much as possible and look down on them with love and affection. But, as babies tend to do, they grow and add weight, which over time can put strain on your body, especially your back.
Using a stroller to transport your baby from place to place can not only offer health benefits to you but can be a very comfortable option for your little one.
Ability to soothe
If you look up on the internet how to help your baby get to sleep, some will cite car rides as a way to help your little one nod off to dreamland. While this is true, not everyone can just jump in their car to do this. You could think of a stroller as a low-tech option to this.
The motion created when using a stroller can create a soothing motion to help a fussy baby feel better and possibly take a nap while you take them on a ride around the neighborhood, park or anywhere else.
Using a stroller can be the safest way to take your baby out for the day or even for a quick walk around the neighborhood. Unlike strollers in the past, current models offer parents the reliability that comes with a protective frame and safety harness.
Most quality strollers on the market will come with a 5-point harness, which is recommended as it is a far safer option for your little one.
Pregnancy can cause your body to go through a lot of different changes, including weight gain. This isn’t strictly limited to new moms though. Studies shows that dads can gain a good amount of weight during their significant others’ pregnancy.
Having a stroller can help fight the pounds put on and help new moms start exercising again. Walking can be a very beneficial exercise and can help the both of you start the process of getting back into shape after months of little to no exercise.
One of the most amazing benefits of a baby stroller is how durable that they are. With many parents, you may see them using the same stroller for a second child or even giving it to a family member or friend.
This is due to the quality construction that goes into a baby stroller, Most strollers are compliant with the most stringent safety standards. Being made from a strong and durable material, they can be considered a long-lasting product with a frame that can keep your child safe from external influences.

While there are many stroller options on the market that can come at a premium price, there are many that can be very affordable options for you and your child. Depending on the features you are looking for, you can find an affordable option that works for you.
Different stroller types
Buying a stroller isn’t always as easy as buying the first one you see. There can be many different types of strollers out there for you to choose from. Some of the available options out there include:
All-in-one travel system
An all-in-one travel system is exactly how it sounds. It is an all-in-one option for those parents who don’t want to spend time or money on different options. The system includes the stroller, infant car seat and base for your vehicle so you can snap the seat into place.
A travel system is the perfect option for parents on the move. The ability to move your little one from car to stroller without removing them from their seat and vice-versa can be beneficial, especially if they are sleeping.
Infant Car Seat Carriers
As the name suggests, an Infant Car Seat Carrier is tailored more towards being a suitable option for those parents who may have an infant car seat from a manufacturer that doesn’t offer a travel system option or may have been a hand me down seat.
Most Infant Car Seat Carries are universal, meaning that they can fit infant car seats from several different brands.
As with any market, there can be some specialty or variety in the different forms the overall product is in. Baby strollers are no different, offering different variations of the overall same product.
A jogging stroller can be seen as more of a heavy duty stroller. A jogging stroller comes with 3 air inflated tires with shock absorbers that are a major improvement over a typical stroller. The weight of these though increases to anywhere between 23 and 31 pounds making it a much heavier stroller.
These types of strollers aren’t intended for the normal everyday use of taking your little one on a walk and are marketed towards those parents who enjoying jogging and would like to bring their little one with them.
Named for its ability to fold compactly, an umbrella stroller will likely be one of the two strollers that you buy once you have a baby, the other being a regular full-size infant stroller.
Touted for its convenience, an umbrella stroller is a light, compact stroller that can easily be put into the trunk of your vehicle. While they are generally a cheaper option, they make up for the reduced price by being a good option in places where full size strollers wouldn’t be as effective.
For those families that have twins, first of all, congratulations. Secondly, a one seat baby stroller isn’t going to do enough when you’re out with them. For those times, manufacturers make a double stroller to accommodate 2 babies at the same time, without reducing the quality or the safety. Some manufacturers even offer an option for triplets or quadruplets if needed.
With baby strollers, like any piece of baby furniture, there can be concerns regarding the safety of your baby while they are using it. There have been reports of child deaths while using a baby stroller.
From covering the opening to protect a child from the hot sun to laying a little one in the stroller the wrong way can lead to terrible consequences for the child.
